Intent
At Punnetts Town and Dallington, we provide an inclusive, broad and balanced PE curriculum that all children can access. It will maximise the development of every child’s ability either to access and improve their personal best as well as/or as a team achievement both in school or against other schools. It will create achievement and promote the importance of physical activity to ensure children take care of themselves both physically and mentally in order to live happy, healthy and active lives. Furthermore, our curriculum will instil in our children life skills and values of resilience, respect, teamwork and communication.
Implementation
- PE at Punnetts Town and Dallington provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net & wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming and outdoor & adventure. All of these have generic skills which we teach each week through out the year to improve personal best skills and at a level suitable for each individual child needs, through Jasmine and real PE programme.
- Pupils participate in two high quality PE lessons each week, covering two sporting disciplines every half term. These are taught using real PE. One weekly session is delivered by a trained member of staff across the school allowing for continuity, progression and high quality lessons to teach the important skills that all sports have and use. These lessons end with mini games or performance to show the use of the skills. Children are encouraged to participate in the varied range of extra-curricular activities as well as a range of after school clubs throughout the week
- The long-term plan sets out the PE units which are to be taught throughout the year and ensures that the requirements of the National Curriculum are fully met.
- Real Pe is a scheme of work which incorporates all the objectives is used to teach all the required lessons.
- Children are invited to attend competitive sporting events within the local area. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage all who would like to participate and improve not only physical development but also mental well-being. These events also develop teamwork, resilience and leadership skills and are very much enjoyed by the children.
- Each year a small group of Year 5 children are invited to become Sports Leaders for the school. They develop lunch times by leading games and activities that children can play. These children then train up another small group from their year group.
- Children in Year’s 4, 5, and 6 swim once a week for 6 weeks during the Autumn Term . By swimming each year it gives the children the chance to improve and develop water safety, swimming skills and a love for swimming across 3 years. It also encourages children to improve to be able to be able swimmers by the end of Year 6.
- We will participate in residential each year possible, delivering on OAA activities which encourage team work, resilience, co-operation, thinking and finding solutions. This is in Year 4 and Year 6.
- We also believe in physical breaks from learning and use brain gym, and walk a mile to enhance learning.
