Tag Rugby

On Wednesday 7th May, Dallington took part in a Tag Rugby tournament that had been organised by Heathfield  Community College. There were 14 teams from the Heathfiled Cluster taking part which were split into an 'A' and a 'B' league, Dallington played in the 'A' league, and each team consisted of 8 players of which 2 had to be girls. The first match was against Broad Oak. It was quite a tight game, but we won 7-5. next we played All Saints and St Richard's. This match was even closer than the first, but we were again victorious, winning 7-6. In the 3rd and 4th matches, against Cross in Hand and Parkside, it was difficult to separate the teams. As soon as one team scored the opposition scored. We were really unlucky not to win  both games, and had to settle for  draws in both, 4-4 with Cross in Hand and 6-6 with Parkside. Our next match was against Burwash. The team fought really hard, but unfortunately they lost 3-4. Our final match was against Punnets Town. By this time the children were exhausted, but in true 'Dallington' spirit, they played their socks off and beat Punnets town 7-4, our biggest margin of the tournament.

Over all the team finished in 4th place, but this does not reflect how close the league was. The winners overall were Burwash with 27 points. Cross in Hand and Parkside both scored 25 points, with Parkside having a slightly better try rate, and Dallington finished 4th with 23 points, so it was incredibly close.

I would like to say how proud I was of all the children from Dallington who took part in the tournament. It was an incredibly hot afternoon, but the children gave their all in every match. A big thank you also needs to go to Howard who did a fantastic job as 'Team Manager' and without whom I would have been completely lost. Thank you also to the rest of the parents who transported children and supported them throughout the afternoon.
